In Memoriam of Miriam Lips

Diogo Pereira,

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Miriam Lips at the end of August 2024.

Professor Miriam Lips was a well-known expert in the field of digital/e-Government, and she contributed to the development of the field in many ways.

Throughout her career, Miriam made several important contributions to the international community of e-government scholars. Back in 1996, shortly after completing her doctorate, Miriam became involved with the European Group for Public Administration (EGPA) Permanent Study Group on informatisation, at that time led by Prof. Wim van de Donk and John Taylor. In 2001, at the EGPA conference in Vaasa, Finland, Wim stepped down to take up other duties, and Miriam joined John Taylor as co-chair of what would eventually become the permanent study group on e-government. It was an appropriate transition, as she contributed for more than 10 years to EGPA as co-chair.

Our condolences go to her family, colleagues, and friends at the Victoria University of Wellington (VUW), New Zealand. In New Zealand, Miriam showed the same dedication to her work as she did in the international community.

The European Group for Public Administration (EGPA) invites scholars and practitioners to propose new initiatives for its 2027 Annual Conference, taking place at Corvinus University of Budapest, Hungary, from 24 to 27 August 2027. EGPA provides a European forum for public administration scholars and practitioners to present research, exchange perspectives and develop collaborations across public administration, public management and public policy. The call welcomes proposals for three formats: Permanent Study Groups (PSGs), Ad Hoc Groups (AHGs) and Specialised Panels (SPs). EGPA looks forward to welcoming new initiatives, perspectives and research communities that will enrich its 2027 Annual Conference and contribute to the development of public administration research across Europe and beyond.

The conference introduced a call for papers across fourteen thematic tracks and an interactive programme to help participants navigate its activities.

Professor Manuel Pedro Rodríguez Bolívar, Editor-in-Chief of the International Review of Administrative Sciences (IRAS), is included in the latest Stanford–Elsevier database of the world’s top-cited scientists, recognising the sustained citation impact of his research in political science and public administration.
